Important Notice: I no longer maintain the native apps for Sigilizer. The only active version is the web-based application, available at https://caostar.com/sigilizer/.
I’ve just released a new magickal tool: the Sigilizer. Below is the explanation presented within the app:
Sigilization is a magickal technique that involves redesigning a desire, either mantric or pictorial, and charging it in a state of Gnosis so that the created symbol can access the almighty “Subconscious,” ultimately helping make that wish come true.
There are several ways to create a sigil, but the method used by the Sigilizer to create mantric sigils was popularized by Austin Osman Spare and consists of three simple steps:
1 – Declare an intent:
Ex: It is our will to create sigils.
Note: It is said that starting with “It is my/our will” is more effective.
2 – Eliminate all repeated letters, accents, and points:
It
is our willtocreatesigilsThis leaves us with:
I T S O U R W L C E A G
3 – Arrange the letters to form a pronounceable mantra:
Ex: OGITAL ERCUWS or TESAGO CURILW
This technique has proven effective and is popular among Chaos Magicians. However, the process can feel bureaucratic and tedious, while the most important part is the state of Gnosis and charging the sigil.
At this point, the Sigilizer comes in. The app automates the process of creating mantric sigils based on the intent you input. And not just one sigil, but several variations. The script always seeks to create the most pronounceable mantras by moving vowels to separate consonants.
Additionally, the Sigilizer is a collective project aimed at understanding what magicians are desiring. Each input intent is saved anonymously in a database (Only the web app saves inputs; the versions in the App Store and Google Play do not store any data.). The idea is to eventually compile a “Desiring Panel,” which will be showcased in art installations and related events.
Besides generating sigils, the app offers a simple meditation to help charge them. Input your desire, sigilize it, and click on “Can we offer a meditation to charge it?” to take a brief journey (Available only in the desktop version.). Below is the explanation about the meditation:
This meditation uses the Sigilizer to generate multiple sigils based on your desire. Each sigil is “spoken” by the app, while the letters forming the sigil are drawn in motion in the background. The idea is for you to sit in a meditative posture and empty your mind to “receive” impressions from the visualization. The full meditation lasts about 15 minutes, but you can watch the screen for as long as you need. Experience suggests that using strong doses of hashish can significantly enhance this meditation.
And a Tool for Guerrilla Magick – A Mobile Sigilizer
Since the primary goal of the Sigilizer is to eliminate the tedium and bureaucracy often found in magick, a mobile version was needed to allow sigil use in “runtime” situations. Simply open the Sigilizer on your phone, and bam! The mobile version of the tool will present itself, optimized for the device. You can generate sigils for anything at any time. “It is my will to receive my pizza, eventually,” anyone?
Even better, after opening it for the first time, your phone will save the app, so you can use it offline—even in the jungle!
The Sigilizer is now available on both the App Store and Google Play, much easier to use with full-screen mode support.
PS: The core engine of the app is hosted on GitHub (https://github.com/caostar/sigilizer) under the Do What The Fuck You Want To Public License (WTFPL).
Awesome work Pablo! Thanks very much!!
It doesn’t seem to work properly on my Samsung Android phone though, is it for iPhone only? When you say the phone will save it and you can use it offline, do you still do this through the phones web browser?
Thanks again,
Paul
Hi Pablo,
I just had a play on a friends iPhone and then again on my Samsung, it looks like it does actually work fine on Android, you just can’t see the “Write your intent here.” box (all black screen with “Sigilize it!” visible). If I click just above the “Sigilize it!” text, it allows me to enter an intent and works fine.
If I might be so bold as to offer a suggestion for the mobile version, perhaps once one has entered the intent and pressed the Sigilize it button, could the intent and Sigilize it fields be blacked out, to leave just the mantra sigil visible? This may help so one is not focusing on the intent during casting. To clarify, sometimes I stare at a mantra sigil whilst chanting the mantra silently to cast the spell. I find this as effective as staring at a pictorial sigil made out of the letters of the mantra, and it would be awesome if I could do this whilst staring at the mantra sigil on the mobile screen. Not sure if this would help others or just me though. 🙂
Cheers,
Paul
Thanks a lot for the feedback Paul!
I’ve just tested on a Samsung and got the exact same results. It is a layout issue on Android Mobile browser. I’ll fix it.
You can be as bold as you want. 🙂 The suggestion sounds nice. The thing with the mobile version is that I’ve tried to make it as simple as possible and remove all the buttons. I will try to think a way to handle your suggestion. Maybe fading out intent field and sigilize button as soon as you tap it and fading in again if you tap the screen.
Did you check the meditation provided on the desktop version? A powerful way to charge the sigil indeed.
And yes. As soon as you load the page on your mobile, the page will be saved and you can visit the url offline after that and everything will work fine. If you want it to behave like an app, just choose “Add shortcut to homescreen” and an Sigilizer icon will be added to your phone among your apps.
Maybe I should push it to the App Store and Google Play, but is so bureaucratic… blah.
Hi Pablo,
That sounds great! I haven’t had a chance to try out the meditation yet but I definitely will, it looks beautiful and I’m sure it would be very effective.
I can see how you would be blah about the bureaucracy associated with the app stores, but I know I would be definitely happy to pay for an app like this, I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one!
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Pablo, I’ve tested it and it works perfectly, thanks very much for fixing that! I’ve also had a go at the charging meditation, that was great also, I’ll definitely be using that again. Good to see you are going ahead with the app idea, I’ll definitely buy it!
Cheers, Paul
Hello Pablo. I just purchased the Android version. How do I get the desktop version?
Hi, my name’s sena. Your app really help me save time to formulate my sigils. But it doesn’t to function when I’m offline. Why not make it operable offline? It will be better since I paid, guess theres no need for ads. And one more: please fix copy function, it seems really hard to copy a sigil from this app. And it easily randomize when I touch the screen. It is not practical to have to jot it down to a piece of paper everytime I make a sigil. And I wont need the app if I have a piece of paper. So it will be much easier if I can copy the sigilized intent more easily
